There have been a number of news stories relating to the events sector and how the industry is booming of late, as the summer draws to a close and venues release their performance details for the first half of the year.
Edinburgh, London and Liverpool venues have all been in the headlines as the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Middle Temple in London and the Arena and Convention Centre (ACC) Liverpool have all reported a successful 2015 thus far.
The EICC has managed to secure over £3.5 million of conferences, bringing substantial gains to the local economy, the C&IT Magazine website reports. The conferences are spread out over the next few years; in September next year the Society for Acute Medicine will provide £1.29 million in economic growth to the city, as it welcomes over 1,000 medical delegates. In January 2017, the British Fertility Society will welcome 600 delegates and 50 exhibitors, contributing around £1.04 million and finally in April 2018 the British HIV Association will hold its 24th annual conference for 800 delegates, providing £1.44 million to Edinburgh’s economy.
In London, Middle Temple has similarly recorded an impressive number of bookings for the coming months, with the last quarter bringing in 21% more bookings than the same period last year. The venue has provided space for fashion brand Pringle, as well as finance specialists Standard Chartered Bank, the charity Place2be and the law firm Linklaters.
Finally, in Liverpool the ACC has enjoyed its busiest summer period since 2008. The venue has played host to two music events: Jamfest and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon; and has also provided space and technical support for the NHS Confederation conference. The venue has invested in new technical equipment in a bid to secure more similar bookings in the future.
It’s great to see good-news stories for venues across the UK; business is clearly booming and this reflects our own experience of 2015 – our feet have hardly touched the ground.
