Our DB Event Networks team are flying high after successfully delivering what is thought to be Europe’s largest temporary connectivity network – at The Farnborough International Airshow.  At 1,000 acres (or 16,000 tennis courts or about 9 Vatican cities), this year’s Farnborough International Airshow delivered a whopping 73,000 visitors and an order-book of over $124 billion, despite closing early on the first day due to heavy rainfall.

The air show, which has been running for over 65 years, took place 11th – 17th July and brought together the global aerospace industry for a week of business and networking which culminated in a stunning public air show over the weekend.

Our event networks team were responsible for installing the site-wide internet and telecommunications infrastructure, which enabled exhibitors, press, security, ticketing and visitors to stay connected during the show.  The completed network delivered VoIP telephony in addition to general internet connectivity and, new for this year, the installation of blanket coverage Wi-Fi in the halls, for visitors. The network also managed extremely large upload requirements in the press areas, to facilitate high res image uploads from 1,500 international press, in addition to live video streaming of the air shows.

With more than 130 miles of cable across the 1,000 acre site, 3GB of internet connectivity, hundreds of VoIP telephones and thousands of internet connections, installing, managing and supporting the network for this event is an incredibly complex job and we’re immensely proud of the huge effort our remarkable team put in to making sure everything ran like clockwork.
