Almost a year after introducing Apple iPads to its event and exhibition industry clients, DB Systems has added the iPad 2 to its equipment inventory.

In another demonstration of its commitment to supply the very best and most innovative products, DB has bought 20 new units following demand from customers. DB already has 45 of the first generation iPads, which were purchased May 2010.

The iPad 2 is thinner and lighter than the first generation iPad and features front and back facing cameras, enabling various new apps, including FaceTime video chatting, as well as a dual-core 1GHz processor.

Oliver Richardson, DB’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: “Our initial decision to invest in iPads a year ago has well and truly paid off as clients, whether they’re venues, design agencies or event organisers, loved them. We always knew it would be popular as it’s such an innovative and interactive product.

“I remember one event – a VIP party a client hosted for its clients – we supplied every delegate with an Apple iPad, which were all pre-programmed with software that allowed delegates to rate various product designs that were exhibited around the venue. The rating system worked on a real time basis as the data collected on the iPads was displayed on a large plasma screen for all to see. At the end of the event, the top 10 rated designs were revealed. In addition, all data collected on the iPads was available to our client for post-show sales enquiries.

“Success like this meant that when the time came to purchase more units, following increased demand from clients, I had no hesitation in ordering the iPad 2. There’s no one practical application for the technology and it can be used in many ways. Our DBpixelhouse division, which specialises in creating content, including software, animation, graphics and video, can design bespoke iPad apps for use by clients at specific shows depending on their needs and what they wish to achieve.”

In the past two years, DB has invested £1m in new equipment. Earlier this year, it became Europe’s largest stockist of the NEC MultiSync 46” LCD video wall modules after buying 60 units.
